Beauty and Love is a fable about a girl named ‘Beauty’ (Hüsn) and a boy named ‘Love’(Ashq) who are born on the same night to a tribe called Sons of Love (Ben-i Muhabbet). When the children are old enough to attend the School of Proper Conduct (Mekteb-i Edeb) ,there , instructed by Professor of Madness, the girl falls in love with the boy, who ignores her. Not the way things are supposed to be!

They meet an ancient sage ‘Poetry’ (Sühan), one spring day in the Garden of Meaning(Nüzhetgah-i Ma’na).Sühan from then on serves a go-between.

Things develop accordingly until a powerful noble of the tribe ‘Dazzle’ (Hayret)

forbids the lovers to see one another. Upon this separation Love becomes obsessed by Beauty and with the help of his aide ‘Fortitude’ and his guide Poetry, petitions the elders of the tribe to ask for her hand.

Ridiculing his demand the tribe send him off on a journey to the Castle of the Heart(Hisar-I Kalb) saying that he must bring back the alchemy found there-

only then he can reach his goal.

Poetry, in various disguises rescues Love and his aide Fortitude from many trials.

He is entrapped by a giant who comes to him in the shape of himself (Love).

He is enchanted by a witch, attacked by the shadows and the jinns- The penultimate trial that Love undergoes is the Fortress of Form where he is lead to by the ‘Stealer of Consciousness’,a princess who aapears the image of Beauty.

With the help of Poetry, Love burns down the castle and frees himself.

And now reduced to less than a mere form of himself , Poetry comes to Love’s rescue,this time as a physician possessed of attributes that Suggest the highest level of the soul.

and taken to the Castle of the heart , where all the characters of two lovers’ past emerge. Love arrives at his starting point- rather, he has never left it.

All the persons and trials of his journey seeking Beauty were forms of his own consciousness.

It is here that Love arrives at the purified state where in actuality, all is Beauty.

Only Dazzle, who separated the lovers in first instance, can lead Love to be re-united with her now. Where ‘the veils of union’ part and the story ends.
