STATE OPERA and BALLET DIRECTOR

ARIKAN Dear artlovers, Many
important operas, operets and ballets, never been staged before, have been brought
on the stage by our opera. While choosing the performances, we utilized public
surveys and other repertoires through out the world. Sometimes we have just followed
a theme. We tried to introduce young artists to the scene. Today, starting the
season, we are proud to present very talented new artists. Today, Istanbul State
Opera is even stronger with its new performers. There
have been times when we performed on stages other than Atatürk Culture Center;
like The Museum of Archeology and The Maiden's Tower. This season, our opening
concert will be at Hagia Irene. Looking at the history many of the opera houses
in the world had to go through serious renovations, like La Fenice in Venice,
La Scala in Milan, Bolsov in Moscow. Because of renovation, we will have to wait
for a whole season to perform at Atatürk Culture Center. We will be performing
at Kadıkoy Süreyya, at Bahcesehir, or other stages like Beyoglu Yeni Melek . Hearing
about the renovation many artists and artlovers have reacted. But this is an exciting
oppurtunity to have an opera which can equal the famous stages in the world. On
a stage, professionally renovated, we artists will have the chance to say "Curtain!".
Saturday, September 27, 2008, at our opening night for
the new season, we bestow Istanbul which will be the Europe Cultural Capital 2010,
Beethoven's 9th Symphony. This season, our repertoire
is very divers and colorful. We need your support which was always there for us
in previous years. Please keep watching, criticising, and supporting us. For
